I can’t help but notice a powerful contrast in how women are leading on the world stage this week.
Women are sharing ideas and hope. Women are addressing care infrastructure needs. Women are calling out issues that are going unheard among the ego-driven rhetoric of the most powerful people in the world.
Meanwhile, during a couple of days at the UN General Assembly, men have taken to the podium to threaten to annihilate each other. And while there are some soft calls for guardrails on AI development, the risks have been lumped in with the “climate hoax” and the “Ukraine hoax”.
Elsewhere, we loved learning about the podium finish of Afghan cyclist Fariba Hashimi, who previously disguised herself as a man to train safely in her home country.
Meanwhile, Dr Sonia Orchard notes that while pornography and the manosphere matter, we also need to explore the harm that begins earlier, at home, for many boys who become violent.

The national pay gap that recent research has found between indigenous citizens and an average Australian worker, with indigenous people being paid 16% less per hour. The Towards Indigenous Pay Parity report, released today by the UTS Centre for Indigenous People and Work and Indigenous Business Australia, found Indigenous workers earn an average 84 cents for every dollar earned by the average Australian worker, equating to around $15,000 less annually.

Mrs Davis's commitment and craft in the kitchen earned her the title of Queen of Scones from her peers. "We say that I retired. I retired happily, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it," she said. "If I had a chance again, a life again, I'd do it again."
