Three of the most powerful women in the country are stepping down.
First and just in, Premier Jacinta Allan has resigned. She did not contest the leadership spill this morning and said she is moving aside to put Labor in the best position possible for the upcoming Victorian election (just 4 months away!).
Allan was once Victoria’s youngest ever woman MP, first elected when she was just 25. She became Victoria’s second ever female premier in 2023. This morning, she urged women to keep aspiring for politics.
Meanwhile Sally McManus and Michelle O’Neil have both announced they’re stepping down following almost a decade at the helm of the ACTU. Their legacy includes 47 new worker rights (including pay rises and leave provisions), as well as a demonstration of just how powerful such a collaboration of women can be.
Also today: Holly Rankin (AKA Jack River) was just 13 when she decided she wanted to write an album and a book, change laws affecting the environment and work in comms. Two decades later, she’s achieved it all! Here’s how.
And Pauline Hanson is exploring her High Court options, after losing an appeal over a racist tweet she directed at Senator Mehreen Faruqi.
