Professor Cassandra Szoeke has led the longest study of women’s health in Australia and one of the most groundbreaking such projects anywhere the world.
She’s just won a major award for her work and dedicated the win to the 438 women who have participated in the research for 30 years of their lives – all so the women behind them can live healthier.
And that’s the thing about the advancements made in women’s health: they typically come from women collaborating, women who are unlikely to benefit from the outcomes achieved.
Another AMA Award went to Dr Amandeep Hansra, who will be joining our Women’s Health & Wellbeing Summit tomorrow for a session on longevity. The kind of longevity that’s relevant to women, rather than billionaires sitting in an ice bath somewhere.
Meanwhile, young women were promised economic independence. It was going to happen, in time, with more education and more career opportunities. But having a job and earning your own income no longer guarantees the pathway to economic security that it once did, especially given the housing crisis.
And Freja Salt looks at the situation in Nepal, and the women and children at risk following last week’s devastating disaster.

Rajendra Dawadi, who is head teacher at Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot, saved the lives of hundreds of students by evacuating the school early after flood warning. "If we didn't make a quick decision, if it was 10 minutes later, we all, including the students and me, wouldn't be able to speak to you today," he told the BBC.
