As a feminist, and now a single mum, this quote by Gloria Steinem is perhaps my favourite of all time. But my goodness, did she give us a lot of good material?!
A life of fierce activism and optimism, Steinem died on Wednesday at the age of 92. She will forever be remembered as a giant of progress.
When Georgie Dent’s second daughter was born 2 weeks ahead of schedule in 2012, she was instantly thrown through a brutal loop. Her husband, a junior doctor at a public hospital, was entitled to just two weeks of unpaid leave, but only from the baby’s due date—not when she was actually born.
So, in those first weeks post-partum, she was left to navigate things alone with some family help thrown in. Here, she reflects on the lessons her family learned about the price of leaving dads out.
